Hello, and thanks for your question. My name is XXXXX XXXXX I will help you today.

I am sorry that your phone is no longer receing and sending messages and calls. It is best to download and install Kies (www.samsung.com/us/Kies) to your computer. Connect your phone to computer and use Kies to do a FULL backup for your phone.

When done, Factory Reset your phone as follows:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select Backup & Reset
  3. Select Factory data reset
  4. Select Reset phone
  5. Select Erase everything
  6. Your phone will reset which will take about 2-3 minutes.
  7. Set it up again.
  8. Download your apps back.

Now connect your phone to computer and open Kies. Run a Restore. Select the Backup we did to reset your phone. All data will be restored to your phone.

Test to see if your phone will receive/send calls and messages.

Please reply back if your phone still has same issue. Otherwise, kindly rate my answer so I can get credit. Thank you!

Does your phone show signal and carrier name?

Thanks Mark.

We already Factory Reset. If it shows carrier and signal, it should work.

There must be a settings we need to modify. However, I am out of ideas. Let me reopen your question to all expers for other suggestions.

Hi there, my name is XXXXX XXXXX I'll be asisting you.

I have a few questions before we begin.

1. What is the exact model of S3 that you have ( there are lots )
You can look under settings>about phone>model

2. Have you tried to network unlock your phone?

3. Have you installed a custom OS on your phone?

Hi paul

I have got back in touch with my network provider seems the fault is something to do with the APN settings.

so they have agreed to take the phone back and sort it out. I thank you very much for getting back to me so hopefully they will fix it.

If you haven't sent it in yet you can try to fix the APN settings yourself. It isn't that hard once you know where to look.

If you can tell me your carrier and plan I'll help you fix it.

Starting from your homescreen:

Go to the main menu/applications list.
Press Settings.
Select Wireless and networks or More settings
Press Mobile networks.
Check Use PacketData/Mobile Data to ensure this is ticked
Tap Access Point Names

You should see an APN for Vigin web. Tap it and verify the settings below.

Name - Virgin Web

APN - goto.virginmobile.uk

Proxy & Port - Please leave blank

Username - user

Password & Server - Please leave blank

MMSC - http://mms.virginmobile.co.uk:8002

MMS Proxy - 193.030.166.002

MMS Port - 8080

MCC - Preset, do not change

MNC - Preset, do not change

Authentication type - PAP

APN type - Internet & MMS (If no option available, enter * )

If anything is different from your own change it and select SAVE from the menu (should show as three dots in the top right corner of the screen.

If the APN is not there then you will need to add it to the list. From the page listing your available APNs tap the menu button and select NEW. Then fill in the fields as above. Again, make sure you save before you exit the screen.
