Resolved Question:

I have a Samsung S III mini. I have two questions:-
1. I don't get notification when email received. This has only happened recently.
2. There is a 1 on the whats app and I can't see any message

Hello, and thanks for your question. My name is ***** ***** I will help you today.

We can reset the sound settings and What's app settings.

First go to Settings->Application Manager->All (Swipe from left to right to All list).
Select What's app on the list.
Tap Force Stop and clear cache.
Next go back to All list.
Select Media Storage and tap Clear data.
Go back to All list again.
Select Google Services Framework and tap Clear data.
When done, press Power for 2 seconds and select Restart.
Test your issues with Email and What's App.

Sorry but I still having the same problem with the emails. Te notification still does not appear .

Thanks for your update.

For this, we will need to clear the cache for Email.

Go to Settings->Application Manager->All (Swipe from left to right to All list).
Select Email on the list.
Tap Force Stop and clear cache.
Power off and turn your phone back on.
Test again.

If not working, we will have to reset the Email settings and add your Email account back:

Go to Settings->Application Manager->All (Swipe from left to right to All list).
Select Email on the list.
Tap Force Stop and Clear data. Confirm to clear.
Power off and turn your phone back on.
Open Email app and add your Email account.
You can email your own email address a test email. See if the notification will show up.
