Kies does work with windows 10, and it depends on which firmware you have installed as to if you use Kies or Smart Switch.
Go to Settings, About Phone on the phone and tell me the Android version you have please.

You have to use Kies.
Go to this link please and download and install Kies (Not Kies 3)

Once installed, run it and connect your phone to it and you can then use this to backup and manage your phone.

You have to use Kies for this
Go to this link please and download and install Kies (Not Kies 3)

I had this before but the website persuaded me to upgrading to Kies 3 and this in turn persuaded me to upgrade to Switch. Never mind, you are the leader

No, there is no Kies on the phone, its built in
Leave the phone connected to the computer and then go to Settings, Applications.
Go to the list ALL and find GOOGLE SERVICES FRAMEWORK
Press it and press Clear Data
Once done, tell me if it then is detected please (remember to leave it connected to the computer the whole time)

ok, then we will have to reset the phoneThis is going to remove all data and return it to new but you cannot avoid this as we cannot connect to it to backupTo do this, disconnect the phone.Then go to Settings, Backup and Reset.Press on Factory Reset, complete this process, and when it has completed, setup the phone and tell me if it then connects please.

Sorry. Had to have dinner. Second attempt on wifes pc worked eventually. I also had great trouble trying to download latest driver for this phone on Samsung website. It didn't recognise the of the phone. Have to jack it in for tonight. Good night.

I had to get a days rest from this.
I found that the problem was not understanding the instructions for firmware upgrade and initialisation. The instructions are not specific enough and I did not do this correctly. I have now managed to do it correctly and the problem is solved. However I still lost many Contacts. I think if the recovery instructions were clearer, I would not have got into this problem.

I also believe that the installation might have been corrupted by the earlier installation ok K3. I did remove all versions of Kies before the reinstall that was successful.

What are you referring to with this?

Maybe not but running "Firmware upgrade and initialisation" is what solved the problem in the end. It is an option in th Tools header.

ok, it is just a setting for checking firmware, so very strange. I think it is one of the other previous actions that go it connected.
But good it is all connected and functioning now.
