I own a pair of Charles Dixon watercolours, Thames marine subjects

Customer Question

I own a pair of Charles Dixon watercolours, Thames marine subjects 'Shipping above Woolwich' each 10.5" x 30", signed, inscribed and dated '08 in gilt mounts , framed and glazed.
I am in the process of changing my Contents insurance. These were last valued in Sep 2002 at £6,000 the pair. Can you give me a ballpark figure for what they are now worth please?

Charles Edward Dixon isdescribed as a British painter who is known for his marine scenes painted in watercolor. He dates 1872-1934.

When assessing an artist's work, appraisers must look at sales of works by the same artist. Art gallery sales prices are private.
We must then go to auction sales prices which are public. When using comparable work by the same artist, medium, subject matter and size are factors to be considered.
Appraisers most often use price per square inch of previously sold comparable works by the same artist as a measure of value.

I made a careful study of recent auction sales of similar works by Charles E Dixon.

Retail art gallleries would double or more the auction sales price,

Using this information, I determined your pair of Dixon marine paintings to have a current insurance replacement value of GBP 14,225.

I hope I have helped you.
