I have a Goldstar microwave, model MV502B/1 which was installed over the range in 2007. The problem is that everything works except the heat! Is this a problem that I can fix or if a repair man is needed, what can I expect to pay for the service. Can you reccommend a reputable electrical service business in the Eureka, Ca area?Marilynn Bartlett XXX@XXXXXX.XXX
The problem is likely going to be your magnetron. The magnetron is the part that actually produces the microwaves to heat the food in your oven. These tend to go bad for no reason at all and without warning. This part is also fairly expensive unfortunately. It will costs about $200 or so to replace the magnetron so most people just replace the unit when this problem occurs.
In checking around the internet, I see that a defective door latch may also cause the non-heating problem? Is this possible? Do you know the best model to replace this oven which has been simple to use without any additional "bells and whistles? The simpler the better.
no, the door switch cuts out the magnetron AND it cuts out the fan for the magnetron as well, so you wouldn't hear any noise at all hardly if that was the issue.I actually think most microwaves are the same since they are all made by Sharp, Ewave, LG, or GE. So I'd go with GE because they come with a 5 year warranty on the magnetron due to the cost of repairs and the fact that they are fairly reliable.
