I bought a home that has a hampton bay ceiling fan in the living room. It is remote controlled and the previous owners did not leave an instruction manual. The problem I am having is switching from the winter mode to the summer mode. I dont see anything on the remote and I can't get high enough (my ladder is short) to look above the fan blades.I'd really appreciate knowing how to switch it, thanks
Already Tried: don't have any specs, it is slate gray, maybe a dark chrome. it is modern in style with 4 light buckets and 5 blades, black in color. I haven't tried anything. my remote has a light/dimmer button at the top, low med high, 3 buttons middle, and a fan off button on the third row.
Hi. Welcome to JA. There should be a small switch on the side of the fan somewhere. Switch it and the fan will spin in the opposite direction. If there is no switch then the fan only spins the one way.Best, THS
well, that is so sad because there is no switch to be seen. I have had many ceiling fans, so I know about the switch, but this fan had no fan or light pulls since it's remote and that was new to me. So I thought the switch was remote also. Could it possibly be that the switch is above the motor housing somewhere? I can't see or reach above it, I would have to locate a taller ladder first. I can't imagine someone having a fan that doesn't change directions and keep it on the winter mode, I am in Oklahoma, where it is over 100 degrees in the summer. We need fans to help our a/c!
I can understand your situation. It gets pretty warm where I'm at too. I also use our fan during the winter to help circulate the heat from the wall heater.
The bad news is that the Hampton Bay line is pretty cheezy as fans go. Home Depot gets them real cheap overseas, and then sells them here for a low price (and a high profit).
Unfortunatly the price is equal to the quality.
What you can try is going to http://www.eceilingfans.com/ and click on the Hampton Bay link. There are pictures of some of the remotes, and other componants on their website.
If you can match your unit to one there it will give you a model number to work with.
You can also call them if you like. They are very helpfull folks there. The number is XXXXX the bottom of the web page.
Please let me know if you require further information.
Best, THS
