My Maytag refrigerator, Model MF12568AES Serial 109714JH has lost refregeration. It has lights on, controls on the front work, It has a quite fan going, but not compressor. Ice maker is also down.Richard
Optional Information: Make: maytag Model: MF12568AEs Already Tried: I killed the breaker, and left it off for 15 minutes, turned it back on and got a low temp alarm, for the first time.
Hey i will help you. Do you hear the compressor making a clicking noise or a buzzing noise and then stops. Can you remove the fridge and check voltage going to the compressor? Let me know if you hear any noises and reply back to me on here. Thanks David
No clicking noise, No effort on the compressor's part to start and stop. I live in a condo, all other instruments are working correctly, I don't think it is a power problem.
Well, you will probably need to pull the fridge out and check to see if the compressor is getting voltage with a multimeter. If the fridge is not sending voltage to the compressor it could be a bad control board. Is the compressor is getting voltage and not running it probably has a sealed system problem and the compressor is bad. This is a expensive repair and i would recommend buying a new unit before repairing the compressor. That would also require a trained technician to do the repair. If the control board is not sending power to the compressor that is something you could fix by replacing the control board. The control board is mounted on the back of the unit. Hope this helps and please remember to click accept. Thanks David
Can you help me find a local trained tech? We live in Daytona Beach Shores, just south of Daytona beach, and just north of Port Orange.

I don't have a way of finding a technician in that area. What i would recommend is to call the maytag customer service number and they can tell you a factory trained technician for your area. The might be a phone number by the model tag or there will be one in the manual. Hope this helps and please remember to click accept. Thanks David
I have pulled the plate off the controller board and there is a clear plastic shield, but I can see what is in there. Before I go further, I would need to know what pins on the connector(s) I should use to take your above suggestion in reading whether the compressor is getting power. Also, I don't see where the compressor is???
Unplug the unit and try to remove the control board and look at the back and see if it is burnt on the back of the control board. The plastic shield will have snap clips holding it in place. To check voltage going to the compressor remove the lower back panel and you will see the compressor. It will be on the right side. There will be a small cover on the side of the compressor just remove that and plug the unit up and check voltage at the wire connection on the compressor. Let me know what you find. Thanks David
OK, BTW the control board is warm. Not hot. I will do as you suggest and get back to you.
Yeah it is normal for it to be warm. It should not be hot. Look for any burn marks on it.
I looke for burn marks, there are none. I also noticed a heat sink, so now I know it is normal for it to be warm. I am having trouble removing or bending the little spring wire gizmo that holds the black square cover on. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions?Forget it, I got the wire hold off, now do I pull the connector out and measure? I have a 30 sec memory so I just re read your suggestions and am about the follow thim, but unpluging the connector and read, I will be back soon. over

There is 125 volts going to the compressor. BUT What is the black thing above the compressor. Looks like a fuse or limiter of some kind, Also I can tell that wome one else has been in this thing. Some screws missing, some not tight. HmmmWe bought it from Lowes as a scratch and dent model. Might be we got burned. We have had it for two to three years. Over
Ok well if you are getting 120 volts this means you have a bad compressor. There is a start relay on the side of the compressor but when this is bad it is normally due to the compressor being bad. I don't think i would put any money into having the compressor swapped out because it will b e expensive. You might want to put this money into a new unit. Even when it is only 3 years old? How much can a compressor cost including service call? and BTW, you are earning your 35 bucks, I will eventually accept the anwers that you have given and thanks for your help, but how much?
At my work a compressor swap out normally cost around 750 to 800 dollars for the total repair. You can try to call around and shop for a price , you might be able to get it a little cheaper.
