The gasket around the door is very hot. It isn't cold enough. I've already vacuumed the coils. Could a power surge have anything to do with this?
Already Tried: Vacuuming the coils - turning the temp down.

The heat around the door is actually normal so long as it isnt so hot as to be uncomfortable to hold your hand on. If it is hot as opposed to just warm then this indicates a problem with the refrigerant level of the unit. Unfortunately this is not something that you can repair yourself. It will require someone that is licensed to work with refrigerants to come out and recharge the sealed system.

The heat from the door of the refrigertor is very uncomfortable. I can't leave my hand there for more than a few seconds because it feels like it will burn my hand. I'm afraid your help didn't answer anything for me because it doesn't answer the question - Could a power surge have anything to do with this? I'm putting in a claim because we had some damage from a lightening strike that affected television sets, telephones, an electric fan and a DVD player. If you can't answer that question then I can't accept.
I am sorry but a power surge will not cause this type of problem. It is a refrigerant problem. Not electronic.
What is heating up is called a Yoder Loop. It is designed to keep the area nearest the door opening warm to prevent excessive moisture from entering the unit when you opn the door. If it is getting hot this signals a low refrigerant condition.
