I have a Maytag Neptune front-load washer that is 5 years old. (MAH8700AWW) Our clothes are coming out with grease marks on them. I contacted A & E Factory Service and they came out and diagnosed the problem. They indicated that the rear-bearings needed to be replace. Thsi is unfortunate because the washer is only 5 years old and this is a major repair that is out of warranty. He also indicated that he was not sure this would cure the problem.I've researched this issue is bit and found that other consumers are and have experienced the same problem. This is an expensive problem not only because of the cost of the repair (approx $550) but also the clothes that have been ruined.I'm looking for some answers. What should I do? Why would I need to do such a major repair when the washer is only 5 years old?

Hi. Welcome to JustAnswer. This is a well known problem with the MAH series. Unfortunately the factory is aware of it but have no intentions of doing anything about it.
There has been talk of a class action suit but so far nothing has come of it.
You can try contacting the manufacturer. Some people have been given a discount on a new unit. The newer units have had the problem addressed, as well as other problems.
Would you like the contact information for Maytag Customer Service?
I've already contacted the manufacturer and you are correct; they don't plan to do anything about it.
The glaring question that I need answered is: If I do the repair (approx $550) will I get the life out of the machine that we would all expect?
Related to that is; What kind of changes have they made to the new model? is it just the issue that causes the bearings to wear early or are there other benefits I would get if I got a new one.
Finally, what kind of discount should I expect to see AND what is the new model that I woud replace this one with IF I go the replacement route?
I do not recommend that you do the repair to your present unit. There have been other problems with this model other than the bearings.
The MAH series has been completely re-engineered to address the bearing, wax motor, control board, and on board diagnostics problems.
What kind of discount they will offer I have no idea. I believe that it is in the form of a discount certificate that you can take with you when you go to purchase a new unit. The only stipulation is that you have to purchase a Whirlpool brand unit. Whirlpool manufactures a broad line of units under multiple brand names. These include Maytag, some Samsung units, Dacor, Whirlpool, Kenmore, and others that I don't recall off hand.
Which type of unit you select will be up to you and your budget.
I want a top-of-the-line washer that is high-capacity to clean the clothes of my active family of 5.I'd like a recommendation from you on a good model, which model replaced the MAH series AND the contact info for the people who can provide me with the discount info. Cost is not my top concern. Also, I'd like to have some idea of what to expect as far as the amount of discount.
You will have to contact Maytag customer service to enquire about getting a discount on a new unit. Their number is XXXXX(NNN) NNN-NNNN Whether they will actually give you one I don't know. I do know that other people have been given one in the past.
As for the type of unit you should purchase; Please click here for a web page that will help you select a new Whirlpool unit. Just select the features you would like to have and it will give you the models available with those features.
The amount of discount (if any) I have no idea. That will be up to Maytag.

Which model replaced the MAH Series? What are some of the discount amounts you've heard?
Answer these two questions with meaningful answers and I'll Accept your answer.
Whirlpool WTW series.
I have heard of up to $200.00 discounts. Usually it is something like 15 or 20% off.
