My Fisher/Paykel washer keeps stopping during the wash cycle

Customer Question

My Fisher/Paykel washer keeps stopping during the wash cycle & beeping. I keep having to turn it back on. I'm not sure if it is spinning during was cycle either-may be just filling up with water. I'm running it now with no clothes and no detergent & it's still stopping and beeping.

Repairman1981 :

What lights are on when it stops and beeps?

Repairman1981 :

hello?

Customer :

the wash and rinse lights

Repairman1981 :

.....there are 3 wash and 2 rinse lights

Customer :

yes, all of them are on when it stops! it seems to fill with water and then stop & beep-don't think it is agitating! I had to turn it off then skip to rinse cycle to get the water out -Rinse seems to be working perfectly.

Repairman1981 :

Are the spin lights on?

Repairman1981 :

The Lights are the error code, but I have seen if they are all on and the hot/cold are beeping it can be a reversed water line or a line shut off

Customer :

I think the spin light is on when it does this. RIght now it is in rinse and I am not having a problem with rinse, just when it is in wash cycle.

Repairman1981 :

Can you start a wash and report what lights are on when it errors?

Customer :

yes-hang on a minute

Repairman1981 :

The reason I ask is it has over 200 error codes and those lights will pinpoint it quickly

Customer :

I just started a wash with no clothes and no detergent-all 3 wash lights are on-2 rinse lights are on and 1 spin light is on now

Repairman1981 :

ok ... that is a normal cycle

Repairman1981 :

Is it running or is it beeping at you?

Customer :

I will let you know when it starts beeping

Customer :

runnning right now

Customer :

it usually take a few minutes before it starts beeping

Repairman1981 :

k

Customer :

it just filled up with water-this is where it usually starts beeping-when it is supposed to agitate

Repairman1981 :

right

Customer :

now it's starting to beep-

Customer :

first wash light is flashing

Repairman1981 :

ok ... what lights are on and which are blinking

Customer :

1st wash light is blinking-other 2 are on, both rinse lights are on steady so is spin light

Customer :

both hot & cold lights are blinking

Repairman1981 :

if the hot and cold are blinking it means there is a valve issue

Repairman1981 :

to test this

Repairman1981 :

Power off

Repairman1981 :

then press wash temp up and hold it while powering on

Repairman1981 :

this will put you into diagnostic mode

Customer :

wash temp up?

Repairman1981 :

yep, press and hold then power on

Customer :

ok you mean toward hot temp

Repairman1981 :

Maybe down, if that doesn't work ..... been a minute since I have actually walked someone through it

Repairman1981 :

there is a up and a down arrow on the wash temp section

Repairman1981 :

yes the up arrow

Customer :

just the cold light comes on, but power does not come on

Repairman1981 :

ok now press wash temp up,

Repairman1981 :

you should hear water running

Repairman1981 :

if you release it does it continue or stop?

Customer :

cold light is on but no water running

Customer :

when I release the cold light stays on

Customer :

it's still on but no power

Repairman1981 :

Power back off

Customer :

ok

Repairman1981 :

And then press wash temp down and power on

Customer :

no lights

Repairman1981 :

it should beep a few times and only have a few lights on

Customer :

spin light on, water leven low light on and softener rinse light on

Customer :

water level low

Customer :

not leven

Repairman1981 :

try the wash temp up and down buttons now

Customer :

yes-hit up and water is running

Repairman1981 :

ok .... if you release what does it do

Customer :

the other 3 lights still on

Customer :

still lights on & water running

Repairman1981 :

ok ... see if it's hot or col

Repairman1981 :

cold

Customer :

hot light is on-let me check water

Customer :

yep

Customer :

hot water

Repairman1981 :

ok ... now press it again

Repairman1981 :

and this will turn it off

Customer :

what

Repairman1981 :

see how long it takes to shut ff

Customer :

the wash temp?

Repairman1981 :

should be almost instant

Customer :

press wash temp button

Customer :

???

Repairman1981 :

wash temp up should turn te valve off

Repairman1981 :

time how long to turn off

Customer :

oryes

Customer :

yes

Customer :

hit wash temp up-almost instant turned off

Customer :

3 lights still on-spin, softener rinse & low water level

Repairman1981 :

ok ... now do the same on wash temp down

Customer :

but no water running

Repairman1981 :

ignore the lights in this section

Customer :

ok-hit cold water

Customer :

it's running but more slowly than hot

Repairman1981 :

how much more slowly

Customer :

just felt it-it is cold

Repairman1981 :

like just a trickle

Customer :

just a trickle

Customer :

yes

Repairman1981 :

ok that is your issue

Customer :

what?

Repairman1981 :

when it's trying to fill it will error out if it's not getting enough water pressure

Repairman1981 :

You need to replace the cold valve

Repairman1981 :

they are seperate on this mode

Repairman1981 :

l

Customer :

where is the cold valve located?

Customer :

is it easy to replace once I find it

Repairman1981 :

it is under the control panel (2 screws on the back) and the cold hose hooks to it

Repairman1981 :

Yes it's very easy to change

Repairman1981 :

2 screws on the back access it, and then 2 screws hold the plate that holds it in and it pulls out, press the new one in and your good to go

Repairman1981 :

Be sure you unplug it water and electricity don't mix

Repairman1981 :

You will need to order it from F&p directly

Customer :

so I can get one at Home Depot or Lowe's?

Repairman1981 :

don't buy from any online places as they could be refurbs .... f&p doesn't use resellers

Repairman1981 :

noe

Repairman1981 :

nope

Repairman1981 :

They don't sell parts like that

Customer :

oh my-I have to order from them & wait for it to come in?

Repairman1981 :

yes, or if you have a f&p repair shop in town, they might stock them

Repairman1981 :

I keep all of them on my van

Repairman1981 :

But I'm in nashville,tn .... I'm sure nowhere near you

Customer :

yes!

Customer :

I'm in Old HIckory

Customer :

near Mt. Juliet

Repairman1981 :

WHAT? crazy

Repairman1981 :

What is your model number?

Customer :

Iknow!

Customer :

hmmm where would that be?

Repairman1981 :

on the back top deck .... left side

Customer :

back of the machine?

Repairman1981 :

yes

Repairman1981 :

should be a GWL 15 or a GWL11 or something like that

Customer :

GWL 15

Repairman1981 :

ok ... lemme look it up and see what part number yours takes,

Customer :

how does it go bad?

Customer :

Repairman1981 :
