Re: Maytag Performa Model # XXXXXI have had the refrigerator for over 10 years, and it has worked perfectly. In the past month or so, I have noticed a bad odor (sort of like pickles!) when the refrigerator door is opened--it seems to be emanating from the freezer. Also, I've been finding water underneath the crisper drawers and on top of food containers inside the refrigerator.I've thoroughly cleaned both the entire refrigerator and freezer--there isn't and hasn't ever been any spoiled food.(Aside from this, the appliance is still normally cold.)Please advise.

Hi I'm John I will help you with the fridge problem.
Do you find water under the crisper's every day ?
No--about 2 or 3 days per week.
The reason your getting water is the drip pan number 4 in the breakdown is clogged up and the defrost water cant make it to the drain pan under the fridge.
Remove the freezer panel number 2 to clear the drain .
If you require more assistance let me know please.
Thanks for your quick answer. The problem is, I'm completely un-handy about mechanical things! How do I remove the freezer panel? It seems to be attached with bolts. Do I just wrench them off? Then, how do I clear the drain? If I can't figure this out, or find someone to help me with it, is there a Maytag person I could call to come and fix it? About how much would that cost, do you have any idea (I'm in New York City)? If I do it myself, can I mess anything up?!MP.S. I'm assuming I have to turn the fridge off first, right? (You see what I mean!)
The panel has a few screws to remove and thats easy , once the panel is removed pour hot water down the drain till it drains down the drain tube .
Its best to have the fridge off while your doing this .
If you want a service tech to do this it will cost you at least $100.00 in New York city.
Do you have a list of specific repair people you can recommend?I'd like to have someone on hand in case I really screw it up!
Whats your zip code please.
New Yorkm NY 10024
I found this company for you but I'm sure you will do this yourself.

I'll give it a try.Is there anything else it could be, besides a clogged drain?Also--if I mess it up, can I get back to you??!
It has to be the clogged drain and if you need me just get back to me.
