I have a Kenmore Refrigerator (Model #(NNN) NNN-NNNN Serial# XXXXX). I found the freezer door ajar one day and the ice had partially melted in the ice bucket. I'm not sure if anyone tried to use the ice dispenser while the cubes were blocked together or what happened, but since then, the ice dispenser will not work. I have emptied the bucket and the chute and auger teeth are clear. The ice maker still makes ice. The water maker still dispenses water. The light over the ice and water dispensers still comes on. Its just the auger motor wont turn the auger to deliver the ice down the chute. It doesn't work in the crushed or cubed mode. The lock button is unlocked. I'm hoping there is a fuse/circuit breaker to the auger motor somewhere. Otherwise, I think the motor may need to be replaced. I'm a good mechanic but I don't have any technical, parts or service manuals for this. I'm not sure how or where to begin. Could you provide me with the information to diagnose and repair this problem?

If you remove the ice contianer off the door can you turn the coupling by hand that is sticking up out of the door?
When you call for ice can you hare a hum from the dispenser motor?
Using a 10mm socket, I tried turning what appears to be the coupling you are referring to. This is the six sided shaft that turns the auger. I was not able to turn it in using about 10 ft/lbs torque in either direction. There is no hum from the dispenser motor.
ok if you open the freezer door and on the bottom side of the dispenser hump (that the icecontainer sets on ) you will see a small cover held in place with two screws ,remove it and than drop the motor down .
You will need to pull the shaft up that the coupler is attached to .
Let me know if you can then turn the motor?
I opened the cover and found the motor encased in ice. I tried a heat gun but that started melting the plastic behind the hole. I am currently thawing out the ice from the motor compartment.
ok So defrost it ,then try the dispenser to see if the motor will run or not ,just let me know ,I`m here to assist you .
It works. Thanks
Glad to be of assistance .
Thank you and have a Happy Holidays
