I have 30 inch built in Whirpool Gold eletric oven (with convection) that fan rattles. It is especially noticed when oven shuts off and fan runs after.
Optional Information: Make: Whirpool Model: GS307PDB11 Already Tried: nothing
Hello.
The convection fan in the oven or the cooling fan for the electronics?
i think it is fan in oven, not for electronics
it is larger fan in back of oven. Can see it on back wall of oven
On the fan in the oven you will see the blade parts labeled 721, 722, 723 below.
sorry, above.
it is possible that the fan has become warped and this assembly is the cause of the rattle when the fan is slowing down.
Are you pretty handy?
so, so-- can take fan cover off etc
That would be the first thing to look at and see. The only other thing it could be, if that is not the problem, is the cooling fins on the motor it self. I have seen both things happen on these units.
Can you check that model number for me again. I pulled one up that was close to yours but the model you gave me is not coming up.
i pulled off cover. Blade spins freely, no wobble
I will check model again
Look at the plate that covers the fan for any rubbing/hitting marks.
Model GBS307PDB11 Whirpool Gold accubake system
No hit marks seen on porcelain
Ok. Let me look at the exact model.
sound was not metallic, more like fan vibrating that is out of balance
Has single blade fan with nut holding in center,
Got it, this is a model with the squirrel cage fan right above the convection fan in your unit. It is under the cooktop are.
Number 3 is the fan.
This fan is really bad about making the noise you are referring to.
It is the only fan on this unit that will run once the oven is turned off.
We have no cook top above it. Has microwave above it that is built into separate cabinet
cook top in different part of kitchen
That's right, yours is a built in. To get to this fan you will have to remove the front control panel where the clock is.
Some of the unit require that you have to pull the complete oven out to replace the cooling fan.
I confused your unit with another customer I am chatting with but I am done with them and with you completely.
I have replaced these motors by turning the breaker off, removing the front panel(clock) and reaching in to the very back of the opening. It is possible on most but some have the screws unaccessible and you have to remove the oven and the ovens top cover to get to them.
not see how to remove clock to get a look
Let me look at that for you.
shut off breaker, clock etc went dead
Look at the pic above. There are side rails on the outside edge of the oven(number 2 in the pic). They have one screw in the bottom of each side. Remove the screw and then pull out slightly and pull down on the whole rail. this will reveal the screws for the control panel. Remove the screws on the control panel and then you can lift the control panel up and off. this will give you access to the motor area.
ok will give try. I can see squirrel cage blower in back thru small grate below clock. Cannot get much of look til get clock off.
Sounds good. Would you like the part number now or later?
XXXXXXX is the number for the fan/cage assy on your unit just so you have it.
I cannot get to left side of control panel cover as small phillip screw is facing wall about 1 to 1 /2 inch away
Do they may a screw driver at right angle?? would need sort of like hex or allen wrench like tool
I use a right angle screwdriver OR a drill bit and a 1/4" wrench to reach those. You can also use a socket.
looks like will need to pull grate below clock too to get acess
That is easy when you get inside.
I usually work around it though.
Do you have the tools to reach that screw.
no, would take really shout phillips, might try phillips of screw gun and see if i could get it to turn
should say really short, not shout
Understood. Happens to me all the time on here.
I can try with phillips head off screw gun, Could pick up tool tommorrow. I have some time off work
Let me try phillips off screw gun while I have you available
That is the pic of my screwdriver.
Got is at Sears.
I think Walmart carries them also.
Ya, I knew what look like , just do not have it. Got screw off with small vise grip and phillips head off screw gun
Very good.
I have control panel loose so I can see squirrel cage all the way in back. is it worth firing oven up to see if make noise Not much wiggle room with control panel. comes out but still in way some
what is invovled if I have to pull oven??
You will have to remove the screws that hold the unit into the cabinet on the sides of the oven.
The oven will pull directly out.
should I put oven thru test cycle to see if can identify noise or are we sure
Is pulling oven more than 1 person job for rooky
You can put it through a test BUT make sure no wires are touching metal so it doesn't short out.
Pulling the oven is easy if you remove the door first.
It is alot lighter that way.
Should we test to see if noise from squirrel cage
You can test it but I a pretty confident.
Should i order or find fan before going on so oven is not rendered useless while waiting. are we talking fan blade or motor?
I would order the fan first and then replace it. It is a complete assy. That is the only way it is sold.
is fan and cage all one unit
All in one.
any suggestion i where to buy fan
Checking prices now.
Live in town of 150,000 would local appliance part dealer likely have or do you have another source
If you give me price , i could check price tommorrow
www.searspartsdirect.com for 120 dollars.
That is the best price I could find.
XXXXXXX is the part number for you again.
what does it take to remove door
Does that look like your hinge?
Some of these hinges have a little clip you have to flip down when the door is open so you can dislodge the door and lift it out. Others require a tool to get them off. It usually comes with the unit.
Here is a video that shows you how to do the door on a similar hinge:

Are you still checking on prices
The best price was at Sears.
www.searspartsdirect.com
XXXXXXX is the part number and the price was 120.
are you checking price?
I did, the price was 120 dollars.
sorry, I could not see last text.
No problem.
I do not have tool to take door off. I have to go seen an emergency. I am a veterinarian and have dog with broken leg? to go see. Can I pull oven if cannot get door off.
Getting more complicated. What is chance of sears having part in stock. pretty poor I presume
You can pull the oven without taking the door off. This video will show you how to remove the door if the hinge matches: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEcGuf1vgo4 They have it in stock.
picture of door hinge not look familar, will try you tube
Ok.
I think I got it.
I will order part. Can I reach you again when I get there in case other issues?
Sure. Just use the link in your email. It may be in your spam folder. You can always access it even after you accept.
