My son put too small of load in the washer and it wont finish

Customer Question

My son put too small of load in the washer and it won't finish the spin cycle. He canceled the cycle and took out clothes and mannually drained water but now we can't get washer to work. When we try to start a new load its takes the info but then automatically goes into the pause stage. We figured it's because he didn't let the last cycle finish but we tried letting it do that but didn't work either. Is there a way to reboot the system? Or do you have any other suggestions?

Expert's Answer

Welcome. The size of the load has no bearing on your problem..You could run the washer empty and it would have no effect..You have something else going on..You either have a blocked drain pump..Or the door loch switch is faulty..This can happen when you try to open the door in the middle of the cycle..The washer will not advance without the computer getting a signal from the doorlock that the door is closed. Most common failure is the doorlock assembly when this happens..Can you hear the pump running at anytime..?

I don't hear anything running. the only thing that happens is that the info seems to enter into the system but when you press start it immediately goes to pause. I believe my son did opon it mid wash because he said it stopped and wouldn't finish the final rinse cyclee on the original load.

No. All lights come on as normal. The only thing that happens is the "pause" keeps flashing on. Everything else seems ready to go

Expert's Answer

Make sure the LOC is not on..If so and you still have the same problem..Either you have shorted out the control board or the door lock is damaged..Most common is the door lock being faulty..But first clean the drain filter out #40.You can access from the back by removing the back panel...You wil need to remove the hose#41 from the drum ..Keep in mind there will still be allot of water left at the bottom..A shop vac works well here..Once you clean the drain screen ..Try restarting the washer..See what happens..If you still have a problem..Then you will need the service manual to run the washer through the self diagnostics test..I can send you the manual for download..All i ask is that you use the accept option for my time helping you..Thanks Bob

I'll absolutely be paying you but can I just ask...if its a faulty door lock can that peice be easkily replaced? we have an appliance parts store in town. the rests sounds a little comlicated for me to do on my own but a door lock seems like a simple fix i might try first
