I have a GE dishwasher...only 1 year old..I can't get it to start not can I choose a different setting..I have rebooted several times
Optional Information: Make: ge Model: not sure Already Tried: rebooting by turning off breaker.. letting it sit before trying to start again
hello
Hi, I am having difficulty with a new GE dishwasher
Yes, does it do anything....lights or settings
Lights for normal wash and heated dry come on when I close the door
but wont start
and cant change the settings for eg. to light wash
Can you get me the model number of f the unit it should be on the inside door frame
GLD4406R00WW
ok one sec
Alright , I see the unit you have.... Based on what is happening you may have a problem with the door switch
Is there something I can do?
I just want to make sure. You can select the settings but when you go to start it it does nothing correct.....and does the start light blink or anything
I cannot even change the setting .. it will not let me change anything nor start the machine.. no blinking
So only a couple of the buttons work?
When I close the door the normal wash and heated dry button are lit.. when I open the door the light go out..When I close the door to start the machine I get no response from any buttons
So when you close the door you can not press any buttons and get any response correct?
yes that is correct
Well you have one of two problems...either one of the door switches are bad...or you may have a bad touch pad. Both of these are common problems on that machine. To check this out would require a meter and tools....you will have to disassemble the control panel to get at it. Is this something you can do?
i suppose i could try..
Do you have tools and a digital volt meter. You will have to check both door switches first.
youre going to laugh...not sure what a digital volt meter is..have a meter with the 2 probes and a needle that gives a reading..will that work?
Yes that should work.
You need to remove the screws on the inner door panel all around the perimeter.
ok ..doing that
ok...... done
Now you can you get the inner panel out of the way so you can see the door latch and switches
ok done
Alright here is the digram so you can see what you are looking at
See part #803 the two switches
Turn the power off to the unit before testing these....Let me know and I can explain
ok..are they plastic?
Yes they are necxt to eachother on the latch with two wires going to each switch
GOT IT!!!!
Ok Set your meter to the Ohm setting ...like 1K .....touch the leads together on your meter and see if the needle pegs out...let me know
DONE!!! Yes
Ok now remove the wires from both switches and trugger the door latch with a screw driver like it was closed. The latch should trip. Then take your meter and put the leads across the two terminal on one switch and then do the other. Both switches should read closed and your meter should peg out on both of them. Also look at the terminals on the switches to make sure they are not burned or anything....
the switch on the left is very loose
Yes it may be broken
Usually one of them breaks either the mount or the switch
i think it may be the mount
Yes that does happen if you have a jumper wire you can test it to make sure
kk
Are you still here?
yes
ok did you jump it?
i think it might be the white switch in between the two gray switches..... it gets stuck
What you can do is just activate the door latch with a screwdriver and check the switches like I said above to see if the one is broke....with the latch activated you should be able to see the micro switch plunger closed....or you should be able to see if the one is not engaging.
I would just activate the latch and check it with the meter. Make sure the power is off you you can test it with the wires on
Did you get it?
this is too complicated for me....
You were doing good.....
i couldnt remove the wires......
Can you get the the latch to lock
yes i can
Ok then as long as the power is off just put your leads in the end of the wires so it touches the metal connector. inside the plastic insulator.
did that
So how did they test
50 ohms
Both of them
i guess
Ok when you touch the meter leads together it pegs out correct
yes it does
Alright the switches should do the exact same thing. Just go in back of the wires on one switch.....Then test the wires on the other switch......The latch has to be actuated....You can make sure it is by opening the handle to release it...then relatch it again with a screwdriver...... Each switch should be pegged out on the meter
Any luck
both switches peg out
Alright since we know both swtiches work leave the latch closed....turn the power on and see if you can program it to start...the door will be open of course....Now if it starts to fill turn it off right away....if it works let me know
is not filling
Is it doing the same thing?
yes it is
Then you need a new touchpad....
anyone in particular to contact?????
If you look at that diagram you can see it...Let me get you the part #
Do you want to do it yourself...
absoulutley not :)
The part # XX
and I would go on Angie's list to find a good reputable service provider to do it. There reviews are paid for by the customers....not the businesses...I would highly recommend anyone that has good reviews in your area on their website.
sounds great ...thnxs for your help..you just taught a divorcee how to take care of her own dishwasher....thanks for the boost that showed me I could do things myself!!!
No problem...I wish it would have worked...but you are doing great....
