Hi, thanks for using JustAnswer.com. Please remember, I do not get paid for my time and expertise until you accept. If you attempt to turn the inner tub by hand, does it turn easily? Exactly what happens if you try to start a wash cycle?
Kelly
when machine stopped working, door had to be manually opened to take clothes out, could not turn inner drum by hand. washer is accepting electrical power, but no controls or switches respond
Okay, if the tub will not turn, it will not begin a cycle. So, that is where we need to focus our investigation! Given the age of the machine, I doubt the tub support has broken. suspect something has gotten wedged between the tubs or something is poking through one of the tub holes and jamming the inner tub. Look closely at the inner tub and see if you can locate anything poking through the holes, like nails, screws, anything that may have fallen from a pocket.
kelly, speaking to you from toronto, washer is in trinidad, if the motor coupling broke which i understand is a common problem with these machines because of whatever re
ason. could that be the cause of the obstruction that is not allowing the drum to turn. my brother told me that the washer was in cycle they heard a loud bang.
The front load washers do not use a coupling. They are driven using a belt or a direct drive motor, depending on the model.
kelly, on the model number that i have provided to you, could you tel me if it is belt driven or direct drive.
Your machine is belt driven.
kelly,on the PH right now with my brother in trinidad says they checked to see if any obstuctions, nothing visible.
Okay, if you can see nothing in the tub and the tub will not turn, there is something wedged between the inner and outer tub. You could have him remove the back cover and take the belt off to rule out the motor being an issue, but I don't suspect the motor to be at fault. There is a large hose on the bottom of the tub that can be removed for limited access to the area between the tubs. Aside form this opening, it will require extensive disassembly to access that area.
kelly, sharing the same belief on the motor/belt. i am a HVAC tech my self used to belt /direct motors and the sequence of operation for fur/ac units. if there is something wedged between the inner / outer tubs could that be the cause the entire system to not respond to any commands.
Absolutely, because the control tumbles the motor at the very start of every cycle. If the CCU does not get a signal from the motor tach, it will not allow any other functions and will stop all processes. Usually there will be a fault code displayed.
kelly, the seq. of oper. similar to press/ switch /high limit switch in furn /ac. on the furn. there is a computer mother board with a fault code display which gives you several diff.trou/ shooting opts. does this washer have the same. Also one last question, if there is no wedge between the inn/out tub, what other options should i be looking at. will be traveling to trinidad end of the month, would like to be able to purchase part in T.O. thanks for your patience dirk.
Behind the front panel (number 7) is a technical information sheet that will instruct you how to perform system diagnostics. The tub not turning is a purely mechanical problem, however. I doubt you will need any parts. The inner tub must turn freely before the machine will do anything. Worst case scenario, you may need a motor if it seized, but I highly doubt that will be the case.
