Already Tried:
everthing works except switching cycles... freezes at 28 minutes and does not proceed past first wash to first rinse to second rinse/water sofener and dry/fan

If you can't switch cycles, then your control board has just failed which is likely why the unit freezes at 28 minutes as well. Below is a link to the control board you need to order and replace in the upper right corner behind the front panel of the drawer.
