Hello. I have a problem with an old Kenmore Heavy duty belt driven (earlys 80s). This washing machine has been working for the ;ast 13 years without any problem. I tried to wash a sleeping bag.... Its a model made in Canada, I looked at the back and under it, it loooks like this mode: http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=144&osCsid=d2b8394d06bc35392915545cfaf1e677 Everything runs properly, the motor, the pump, the belt is running as well... but it does not agitate or spin. Do I have to take the agitator apat ? and how? Thank you
Optional Information: Make: Kenmore Model: Heavy Duty 70-80? Already Tried: Checked that motor, belt, pump were running...
Hello, and thank you for using this service. I'll be helping you with your problem today.Do you hear the motor running even though it's not agitating or spinning?
Yes the motor is running properly... the belt as well.
ok then that means your transmission is bad, or the wig bag on the back of the transmission needs to be replaced. The transmission is no longer available so you'd need to replace the washer to fix the issue, but if you wanted to replace the wig wag which is the part that moves 2 levers to tell the transmission what to do, then you could try to replace that to fix the issue. Below is a link to the wig wag.CLICK HERE
So basically when I tried to wash my sleeping bag, it blocked the agitator and damaged the transmission of wig bag. Actually the machine ran 30 min at least before I realized the agitator was not spinning anymore.
yes, that happens, it can cause the wig wag to struggle changing gears, or it can strip out the gears on the transmission if it's overloaded to the extreme.
