Hotpoint WMD940 washing machine. Press start button, door locks as if its about to start but nothing else happens. No error codes or flashing lights.
Ok if the door actually locks but the washer isnt starting and no flashing lights then its possibley the carbon brushes in the motor.
Take the motor out and at the back either side you will see the carbon brushes. Take them out and see if they have worn down. If so then they will need to be replaced.
Then retry the washer and see how it goes from there. Let me know what you find or if you need anymore info just get back to me.
machine doesn't fill or drain, won't start program even though door locks
Usually when you get this fault its as i said above possibley somthing to do with the carbon brushes in the motor.
Check them and see what you find and let me know.
But if the door locks but doesnt do anything then then check the brushes in the motor and see what you find.
Sorry but still doesn't compute.
Having worked on machine for many years we have not come accross a situation where the motor/brushes have any implication on the program starting unless the machine has filled with water and pressure switch has activated.
Can you please verify that motor brushes can have an implication with the program starting even though it hasn't filled or heated?
Sorry for the delay.
Yes worn motor brushes makes the motor open circuit and this breaks the circuit in the washer and causes faults like this.
Many washers work this way and have done for many years now so strange how you never come across this working on washers. Whirlpool and indesit which is now part of hotpoint have been designing there washers like this for many years.
But if the motor brushes are fine then just check the wiring to the motor. But if all thats fine then its going to be a faulty control bpard im afraid.
Do you have the part number for the brushes on this machine. Both for a 5 tag and 7 tag. We only seem to be able to locate a motor, not the brushes.
If you are able to provide this it would be very helpful.
Just had a look at this and its showing 2 types of motors.
One has carbon brushes and the other is an induction motor which doesnt have brushes.
Have you seen the motor? Does it have carbon brushes in the back of it?
Its the one with the carbon brushes.
