My Siemens Gigaset SL785 Duo telephones have a loud buzzing in the background after you dial a number so it is virtually impossible to hear anyone speak when they answer - it only started last week - how di I get rid of it?

rwhill1 :

Hi

rwhill1 :

Do you have any other devices apart from your router sharing the telephone line?

JACUSTOMER-6agrymo0- :

No

rwhill1 :

Do you have a filter between the telephone line and the base station?

JACUSTOMER-6agrymo0- :

No

rwhill1 :

And is that same line providing your BT Broadband connection?

JACUSTOMER-6agrymo0- :

No? From the box on the wall there are two outputs - one to the base station and one to the router

rwhill1 :

Do you know if it's a fibre broadband connection or wired ADSL?

JACUSTOMER-6agrymo0- :

It is the latest BT upgrade from 2012

rwhill1 :

Is there anything written on the socket?

JACUSTOMER-6agrymo0- :

Openreach

JACUSTOMER-6agrymo0- :

A BT Group Business

rwhill1 :

Is one socket marked 'adsl' and one marked 'phone'?

JACUSTOMER-6agrymo0- :

There are no markings on either - the upper one is the internet and the lower one is the telephone

rwhill1 :

Do you have a filter - usually small white box with a lead and two sockets?

JACUSTOMER-6agrymo0- :

yes I do have a filter but I am wondering why the telephones changed last week to making a noise after over two years 'trouble free' and no filters?

rwhill1 :

Yes, it does seem strange

rwhill1 :

I'm thinking, if there is a filter in the socket, maybe it's failed

rwhill1 :

My other suggestions would be to try the phone with the router disconnected

rwhill1 :

and to perform a factory reset of the phone, but it will then require re-programming

JACUSTOMER-6agrymo0- :

I have tried with the filter on but no difference and likewise with the router disconnected

JACUSTOMER-6agrymo0- :

My wife is now calling me for dinner so I will have to go

rwhill1 :

Do you have a standard phone you can try ?

JACUSTOMER-6agrymo0- :

no

rwhill1 :

Shall I switch to Q&A, so we can follow up later

JACUSTOMER-6agrymo0- :

no I think I will take it back to the shop

JACUSTOMER-6agrymo0- :

He tried his best but ....

rwhill1 :

I thought you mentioned they were two years old - the factory reset may well work.
