Hi

I have a Neff Schott Ceran gas hob. There is a black strip at the back of the hob which the pan supports rest on and over time this strip has partly eroded away and is now exposing a metal surface. It does look a bit of a mess. I want to sell our house but don't want to go to the expense of replacing the hob, any suggestions as to whether this can be repaired, repainted or rubbed down so at least it all looks the same colour. Hubby has tried to get this strip off but has been unsuccessful.

If the glass surface has worn away to the point where the metal and inner layers of the glass are showing there is nothing that can be done but to replace the glass.

Jon :

But with these schott ceran glass cook tops the glass is really very expensive. Should cost about $500 to replace.

Jon :

But this will be cheaper then replacing the whole hob.

Jon :

So my advice to you if selling the home is to just replace the cooktop glass surface. that is your cheapest option. otherwise, you will have to give the buyer a concession or money to replace the hob altogether.

and again, that will usually cost way more then a new cooktop.

Jon :
