Customer Question

The dial on my Hotpoint washing machine WD740 spins freely and isn't selecting a program... I have had a look but can't seem to remove the lid even!

Hi

KevinWhiteJA :

The problem seems to be with the timer motor that is bad and needs replacement

JACUSTOMER-e55s5wa3- :

Hello. Sorry I just realised my model number is WDF740G. Timer motor, right okay, how can I remove that?

JACUSTOMER-e55s5wa3- :

The dial that spins is the program selector dial, so whatever it's stuck means clothes coming out very wet

JACUSTOMER-e55s5wa3- :

Only 1 year old so very disappointed

KevinWhiteJA :

ok

KevinWhiteJA :

have you tried cleaning the dial ?

KevinWhiteJA :

You can pull it off from the front and check if the spindle shaft is broken or split

JACUSTOMER-e55s5wa3- :

It's so loose feels like not connected to anything behind

JACUSTOMER-e55s5wa3- :

Okay will do, but the machines quite new and very clean visibly

JACUSTOMER-e55s5wa3- :

I tried pulling from the front but was scared to force it

JACUSTOMER-e55s5wa3- :

Any idea how to remove the lid?

KevinWhiteJA :

Is it still under warranty ? because if you remove the control and the fascia to remove the knob this will void off the warranty

JACUSTOMER-e55s5wa3- :

Thanks for help btw

JACUSTOMER-e55s5wa3- :

No its just outside, but inside parts warrenty

KevinWhiteJA :

even if it is inside parts warranty I won't recommend you to pull it out yourself...to pull the knob you have to remove the front panel first

JACUSTOMER-e55s5wa3- :

Okay

KevinWhiteJA :

you can simply call them and tell them it is still under warranty & you want the knob to be replaced as it is bad and they will do it

JACUSTOMER-e55s5wa3- :

Okay I will re-check my warranty information - but if they won't do it, any idea how to get into the machine?

KevinWhiteJA :

Yes, remove the front panel first, after it is done remove the knob

KevinWhiteJA :

this is the simplest way to remove the knob

JACUSTOMER-e55s5wa3- :

Okay, thanks for your help

KevinWhiteJA :
