Hi Yesterday we defrosted the freezer of our combined fridge/freezer.

Resolved Question:

Hi
Yesterday we defrosted the freezer of our combined fridge/freezer. Coincidentally, the light in the fridge compartment failed at the same time (it was fading when the defrost was started). We did not switch off the unit at the socket, but turned the dial off.
The unit has now stopped completely. I have replaced the bulb this evening but still nothing.
The whole unit is integrated so difficult to take out.
Hope you can help!
Thanks

Hi

Ok when you turn it on can you hear the compressor running at all?

Also if you remove the shelfs inside the top half of the fridge and press on the back wall does any part of it feel spongy like you can press it in?

Regards

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

No - there's no sound at all.

The back does not feel spongy.

Thanks

Hi

Ok if its not running then its either going to be the thermostat or compressor at fault here.

What you need to do if checking this out yourself is remove the light unit inside the fridge and you will see the thermostat in there.

Remove this and you will need a multimeter.

Check the thermostat is turned on and test between tags 3 and 4 and see if you have continuity.

If there isn't then the thermostat is fauty and will need to be replaced which you will be able to do from inside there.

But if there is continuity then the thermostat is fine and the compressor will be the fault. Now this isn't a diy fix as it will need to be regassed once fitted so a fridge engineer will need to do all this as they will have the equipment.

But check the thermostat first as this isn't that bad of a job.

If you need anymore info just get back to me.
