Hello, I have a Drayton Digistat +3 Wired 240V. It is currently

Resolved Question:

Hello, I have a Drayton Digistat +3 Wired 240V. It is currently flashing and not responding. By flashing I mean it goes from nothing showing on the screen to showing the black-digi sections all lighting at once. I have tried to shut it down from the fuse but this did not help. Every third flash, it tends to flicker the temp in the house. I also noticed that when the temp in the house goes above a certain amount (around 20'C) it will stay on as normal for a short time, but then revert back to flashing.

We recently had a communal heating issue in my building which I am told cannot have caused the fault, but I am not convinced as it happened on the same day, seems a bit to coincidental.

-Do I need to replace the unit?
-Is there any way to do a hard reset?
-If I do need to replace it, can I just change the front cover and attach the front half of the new one to the back part of the old one which is attached to the mains.

Can you help?

Hi, my name is XXXXX XXXXX I have been in the home improvement and repair field for 20 years. I will be very glad to help you today. You can enter the installer menu by holding < and + for five seconds. Scroll through the selections and see if the lock is on or off. You can change the selections that may allow it work. Also change the battery. That may be the issue also. If the posts for the battery seem corroded you may want to lightly sand the posts first before installing a fresh battery.

Customer:

Hi Mike,

Customer:

As mentioned the unit is not responding. I will try the 5 sec thing again but I'm pretty sure that did not work last time. Also, as mentioned this is a wired unit attached to the mains, so no battery.

canuck the pro :

There should still be a battery.

Customer:

there is not! There are two models of the +3. One uses a bat, the other uses the mains. This one has a build in watch bat which is a back up and cannot be replaced.

canuck the pro :

I see. They now have them with a replaceable battery. The one that is in that cannot be easily replaced. It may be the issue is the internal battery but it has to be soldered in. The quickest solution would be to replace the thermostat itself. The issue is certainly the thermostat and replacing it will fix the issue. Almost certainly the issue is the battery and replacing the battery itself should also fix the issue. Of course that is a matter of ordering a new battery and then soldering it in. Also if you contact Drayton they may replace it for free. No guarantee they will send you a replacement but there is a very good chance they will. Their contact information is in the back of your manual and if you do not have it then it is on the last page of this manual. http://www.bhl.co.uk/images/tagged/p/64811-technical-Drayton%20Product%20Catalogue%20(May%202009).pdf

Customer:

yea they suggested buying a new t-stat, which i did earlier, as it seems to be a softwear issue. I am going to simply attach the front pannel of the new one to the back wall piece of the old one (which is already connected to the mains), and hope for the best. Even though I had to repeat myself which wasted time, I am in a good mood and need some good karma, so I will release the credit as you took the time to help.

canuck the pro :

Very good. I hope I can contribute to your continued good mood! I will be here if something comes up and you can still ask questions after you rate my service also. I will always respond. Mike

Customer:

cheers mate! good to know! take it easy

canuck the pro :

You too! Cheers!
