Hi im machine free stitching and the upper thread is being frayed i have a janome 5000 was ok then problems I have had it recently serviced ?

How old is it and how did this start ?

Customer:

its about 20 years old. Im sewing a quilt was ok then stopped working and I think i damaged the spool holder had that fixed, but now shearing the upper thread.

OK, have you tried to open the needle plate and then clean it

Customer:

Yes thats been all cleaned out. The only thing is that the spool holder was damaged and sanded smooth i just wonder if it has a rough edge and rubbing the thread. Im thinking i might need a new spool holder?

and the bobbin is cleaned as well completely ?

Customer:

yes ive taken that out as well

and I believe there is nothing stuck inside bobbin winder and stopper...if everything is cleaned then yes you will have to replace the spool holder

Customer:

yes i think so but the top tension does seem really tight though

as you have already tried to clean everything and checked bobbin spindle and stopper then you will have to replace the spool header

Customer:

sorry what do you mean bobibin spindle and stopper the underneath bit ?

Customer:

also ive just looked at the needle eye doesnt look central when set in the needle holder , flat side at rear or am i going cross eyed !
