Our capel fridge freezer is showing red lights for 15 and 18

Resolved Question:

Our capel fridge freezer is showing red lights for 15 and 18 degrees and is icing up. The temperature control is way down. Could it be the thermostat failure. If so is this easy to replace. Thank you. regards XXXXX

Customer:

+icing is on the inside of the back

If you remove the bottom tray, there is a drain there where the condensate will drain. Is that drain clear?

Customer:

yes the drain is clear

canuck the pro :

Are there any items in the freezer that are blocking the vent?

Customer:

No

canuck the pro :

Any chance the door has been left open on the freezer or fridge?

Customer:

No in fact the freeze feels very cold and is even icing the carrots in the veg compartment

canuck the pro :

Then next we would want to check the evaporator. It will involve removing the back panel of the fridge and checking the evaporator is iced up. The heater on the evaporator must not be heating the evaporator and it just continues to cool.

canuck the pro :

Either the heater on the evaporator or the timer is failing.

Customer:

I'll have to get someone in to do this so thanks for your help so far

Probably just out of warranty too. Funny how that works isn't it?

Since that fix is a bit out of your comfort zone you can try one thing on your own.

canuck the pro :

It will require emptying the fridge and freezer of all items. Unplug it and let it defrost for 24 hours with the doors open. Possibly what has happened is there was an item in the freezer that was blocking the vent a bit. It would freeze the evaporator beyond what the heater can take care of. Very possibly defrosting everything for at least 24 hours (be sure it is in a heated area) should solve the issue.
