I have a beko gnev120apw. Over the weekend we left the fast

Resolved Question:

I have a beko gnev120apw. Over the weekend we left the fast freeze function running for about 10hrs. The next day the appliance starting making a very loud whirring noise. This latest a day and then stopped and went back to normal. However, the top half of the freezer is no longer working. The ice tray has defrosted. The lower half is still producing cold air from the vents but the top vents appear to have stopped working. Fridge appears to be working as normal.
Is this fixable?
Thank you

Hiya,
Is the fan in the freezer compartment running?

Is there a build up of ice on the rear panel inside the freezer?

Thanks
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
No ice build up and sounds like fan is working
Expert:  Techdesk replied 3 years ago.
Hiya,
OK, you need to be sure the fan is running, if it's not, you'll get cold at the bottom but not the top.

Similarly, if there's an ice blockage, you can get the same.

Unplug the appliance.
Empty the freezer and take the rear panel inside the freezer out.
(you'll likely need the ice maker out).

Is the evaporator blocked with ice or evenly coated with frost?

Double check on the internal fan running.

Let me know what you find.
Thanks

So have taken ice maker out and unscrewed panel, but can't get it out, any tips?!
Expert:  Techdesk replied 3 years ago.
Hiya,
If it won't come out, I'd suspect ice holding it in place.

The loud whirring, I suspect, was the fan hitting ice.
This is why I asked you to confirm it was actually running.

Try warming the panel up and see if it comes off.

Thanks

Panel off. There is some ice but not a lot and mainly at bottom. Turned machine back on, fan not running
Expert:  Techdesk replied 3 years ago.
Hiya,
It won't run straight away.

Is the evaporator (the pipework) evenly frosted over?

Thanks
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
Shall I turn it on and leave it to see if fan runs?
Pipe work doesn't look particularly frosted, but it looks the same all over
Expert:  Techdesk replied 3 years ago.
Hiya,
Yes, keep the panel off meantime, plug it in and check to see if the evaporator coats with frost all over.

Thanks
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
Yes, evaporated evenly frosted
Expert:  Techdesk replied 3 years ago.
Hiya,
OK, then the fan is the next check.

Put the panel on and check if the fan starts running as the freezer cools down.
Make sure it's the internal fan you hear.

Thanks

Fan doesn't appear to be running, can't hear it
Expert:  Techdesk replied 3 years ago.
Hiya,
You need to give it time to cool down and see if the fan kicks in.

Thanks
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
How long do you think that should take?
Expert:  Techdesk replied 3 years ago.
Hiya,
I'd give it a couple of hours and see what happens.

Thanks

Fan doesn't appear to have started running...
Expert:  Techdesk replied 3 years ago.
Hiya,
If you have a multimeter, you could check the motor to see if it's failed.

It's the most likely cause of the problem, testing would confirm it.

If you can't test it, you'll need to try a new fan motor.
It is the most common cause of the fault you have.

Hope this helps
Thanks

My fridge is now freezing the crisper section. Is this caused by the fan as well?
Expert:  Techdesk replied 3 years ago.
Hiya,
Yes, cold air is leeching through the return from the fridge.

Once the fan issue is sorted out, this will sort out too.

Thanks
