Customer Question

We have an IDW 603. The door spring has gone so that the door drops open once unlocked (it doesn't hold in the near upright position).

Is it possible to replace the "spring" mechanism myself? If so what parts are required?

If not, how much would it cost to have a technician out to repare it?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Hiya,
How are your diy skills and do you have a decent tool kit?
Would you be able to take the dishwasher out and take the side panels off?

Thanks

Thanks Techdesk,

My diy skills are moderate, I installed the machine a few years ago, replacing a previous model.

I have a large variety of tools.

So, I'm sure I can take out the dishwasher, and take off side panels, so long as nothing "pops" ie spring apart, requiring a specialist "jig" to put together.

Thanks

Hiya,
No specialist jig is required.
Basically, you need to have a look and see which part is actually broken.
Hinge, spring or the part it hooks onto at the top.

Once we know this, I'll advise further.

Unplug the appliance.
Take it out and take off the side panels.
Let me know what you find.

Thanks

Thanks, I'll have a go.

Hi again,

I responded with further information and I wondered whether you will be able to reply.

It was regarding the door of our Belling IDW 603 and I agreed to open remove the machine from its housing and take the sides off.

I reported back that I had done this and seen the problem as a broken hinge cord (plastic bit broken where it fits on the door).

I saw on a parts website that they are easy to get, but asked for guidance on how to fit, my concern was in working against the tension of the spring.

In that you have not replied as promptly I wondered whether my last message had reached you.

Please advise.

Many thanks

Hiya,
If you read the question thread, you've not made any post (other than this one) since I asked you to check the broken part.

Thanks

Hiya,
I've had a look at the suppliers and it's still an available part.
Quite a lot of parts are now obsolete for your machine.

To fit them, I fit the new cord to the spring and then fit the old one onto the spring too.

Use pliers and wrap the old cord around them, pull on the old cord to stretch the spring and hook the new cord onto the hinge.

Basically, it's a bit of brute force to fit it and the job's done.

Hope this helps
Thanks
