Hi We have a Siemens Microwelle Plus combi oven and Microwave

Resolved Question:

Hi
We have a Siemens Microwelle Plus combi oven and Microwave (model HF87960 or 970 GB). 12 yrs old but has behaved impeccably up to now. Heating up a cup of coffee we heard a pop like a fuse blowing. All power to unit lost. Changed 10A fuse inside and checked plug etc. but when appliance switched back on display shows very briefly then fades away. Neither oven or microwave working. Please advise if terminal.

Thanks

KevinWhiteJA :

Hi Mr K Crellin

KevinWhiteJA :

Welcome to Just answer

KevinWhiteJA :

Does it also make any loud or different sounds at the moment ?

Customer:

Nothing - seems dead apart from brief display at switch on.

KevinWhiteJA :

so it comes up for a few seconds and then fades away or works for minutes .. ?

Customer:

Display shows for just a second or two (flashing zeros) - no power.

KevinWhiteJA :

ok

KevinWhiteJA :

and was it a loud pop or just a faint one ?

Customer:

Faint

KevinWhiteJA :

as it runs for few seconds then stops it may be a short circuit in the main control board...looking at the age of this unit it is better to buy a new one instead of going for a repair

KevinWhiteJA :

a new circuit board will cost you around £95 and is not easily available

Customer:

A similar appliance today costs over £700. Do you still advise new rather than repair?

KevinWhiteJA :

If you want you can get a free repair quote from www.repaircare.co.uk

KevinWhiteJA :

This one might work for a year or so..thats why I recommend buying a new one

Customer:

OK. Twelve years is a good run.
