i just turned the knob to check and it has blown, the whole cooker has gone now. I will need to get someone out

Hi Miechell, its a bad control knob the internals. Its easy to fix but in this case you are better off having an appliance tech fix this for you, it likely shorted which will kick the whole thing out.
