AEG Santo built in fridge has built up frost on back plate.

Resolved Question:

AEG Santo built in fridge has built up frost on back plate. Have turned it off but it will take a long time todefrost. I thought it automat5ically defrosted itself. Can you advise?

Also the ice on the back wall, Is it a thick even layer all over the wall?

Thanks for that ive got it now.

Looking at this its controled by a thermostat so yes you are correct that its auto defrost so every few hours the ice should melt away and then refreeze. But it sounds like the thermostat is faulty not turning off the compressor to allow it to defrost. So what happens is its freezes up to much and you get this fault weres theres to much ice.

To cure this you will need to replace the thermostat. The themostat is up t the top in the light fitting. You need to remove this and you can access the thermostat from there and swap it over.

But the thermostat is very expensive on these. Its because its an older model the spares go expensive im afraid.

But from what you say the thermostat is going to be the fault here.
