I have a Bosch Exxcel tumble drier (approximately six years

Resolved Question:

I have a Bosch Exxcel tumble drier (approximately six years old) which has suddenly stopped working; one minute it was fine, five minutes later (second load) - nothing. No lights on the fascia, no apparent cause. Wall socket (checked with other appliance) OK, plug wiring OK, fuse (13 amp) OK, seems to be a problem with the appliance. Any clues, please?

KevinWhiteJA :

Hi, welcome to Just answer

KevinWhiteJA :

Please tell me its complete model number

KevinWhiteJA :

starts with E nr

Customer:

Hi Kevin, the model no. is E-Nr.WTE86304GB/05.

KevinWhiteJA :

was it heating perfectly fine before it stopped working ?

Customer:

Yes, it dried the first load as usual.

KevinWhiteJA :

looking at the age of this appliance and from what you have described the problem is with the control board that is bad and will need replacement

KevinWhiteJA :

the power is getting to the unit as the fuse and wiring is fine

Customer:

When you say 'that is bad' does that mean very expensive, in which case and in view of the age of the machine, might it be a better proposition to buy a new dryer?

KevinWhiteJA :

the cost of new board is around £250

KevinWhiteJA :

if you want to check it yourself you can remove the board behind the panel and check if for any burn marks

KevinWhiteJA :

as the power is getting to the unit, and even if you do not see any burn marks it is going to be the board that will need replacement

KevinWhiteJA :

and yes it is better to buy a new one instead of spending £250 on the control...a new dryer will cost around £300

Customer:

Thanks Kevin, £250 plus the cost of a technician to replace it - it looks like a new appliance is in order.
