I have an old Valiant boiler either The Turbomax or Turbomax

Customer Question

I have an old Valiant boiler either The Turbomax or Turbomax /1E VU/VUW
(242E/282E - 242/1E 282/1E_.
The issue is the timer for the heater. I do not know whether the timer buttons should be pushed in or out for setting what time the heater comes on. Right now the timer is set for 9-10am and the buttons for the timing is pushed in and all other buttons are pushed out.
The radiators are hot though.
Can someone help please.

***** ***** : It is usally in or off and out for on
***** ***** : It is still turning?
***** ***** : For more control you can leave it on 24hrs and swap the thermostat for a programmable one
***** ***** :

Have you managed to sort this yourself, or do you require further help?

JACUSTOMER-6tr0byb0- : Hello

Hi

***** ***** :

Did you get this sorted?

JACUSTOMER-6tr0byb0- : Hello. When we do the timer we push the buttons in for the time we want the timer to come on but the heating would come on anyway. We tried going the other way but that also does not work.
***** ***** :

Is the timer still turning?

JACUSTOMER-6tr0byb0- : We now just put it on 24 hrs for 1-2 hours and then switch it off
JACUSTOMER-6tr0byb0- : The timer still turns correctly.
***** ***** :

It is possible to wire a new timer (digital if you want) into the room thermostat link on the boiler

***** ***** :

This will enable you to programme up to 6 ons/off per day

***** ***** :

Or even use a programmable room thermostat

***** ***** :

Much more control and then just leave the timer on 24hrs

JACUSTOMER-6tr0byb0- :

Ok. Can I sort that out myself or do I need an engineer?

***** ***** :

Do you have a room thermostat already?

JACUSTOMER-6tr0byb0- :

no

***** ***** :

Ok, best to get an electrician to run a wire to a new position that is easy to use and then you can fit anything you like - like I said a programmable room thermostat is the easiest to use, you can then just set a night time temperature (12 degrees ish) and if the house gets cold it will then bring the heating on for 10 minutes to lift the temperature.

JACUSTOMER-6tr0byb0- :

Great. Thanks very much for your time.
