Hi We have a Zanussi Washing Machine which has power and fills

Customer Question

Hi We have a Zanussi Washing Machine which has power and fills up but stops working early in the cycle and the green pause light is on, the machine is as if it is on pause. It will drain if I turn the machine off and then put it in drain mode.
Do you have any ideas what the problem is and how I can fix it.
Many thanks
Sean

George-Allsorts :

Hello Sean, my name is George..

Can you give me the PNC code from inside the door so that I know which machine we are dealing with

JACUSTOMER-jxwndmcc- :

Serial number 811 00675

JACUSTOMER-jxwndmcc- :

Mod ZWF16070W Type H196661

JACUSTOMER-jxwndmcc- :

Prod No: ********* 00

George-Allsorts :

That is the one... However, I can not see it... can you type it again and place a # ***** of the numbers and omit any spaces

JACUSTOMER-jxwndmcc- :

Prod no *********** but there is a space before the 00

JACUSTOMER-jxwndmcc- :

Type I got wrong it is H1946661

George-Allsorts :

Prod number ... put a # ***** the numbers so I can see it

JACUSTOMER-jxwndmcc- :

#91452142900

George-Allsorts :

thanks for that.. give me a few moments please

JACUSTOMER-jxwndmcc- :

No problem - trhanks

George-Allsorts :

OK.. I see which one you have...

So when you switch it on.. it fills... then what?

JACUSTOMER-jxwndmcc- :

It fills then starts the cycle then just stops, with the green arrow lit up, push that then the arrow flashes but nothing happens. Ultimately I turn the dial to off and the machine turns off. Then put the dial to drain and it does exactly that. Then I tried again a new cycle but the same happened again.

George-Allsorts :

When you say that it starts the cycle... does the drum rotate?

JACUSTOMER-jxwndmcc- :

Yes for a while

George-Allsorts :

Can you do a little test for me... can you put it on the rinse cycle.. let it fill, let it run foor a few minutes and tell me what happens

JACUSTOMER-jxwndmcc- :

will do, give me a few minutes

George-Allsorts :

ok.. i'll hang on by

JACUSTOMER-jxwndmcc- :

OK it filled up and after 3 mins exactly the water stopped filling up (probably as programmed) but then machine stopped The drum did not turn at all, I am now doubting myself whether the drum rotated before but I thought it did. It is still still not sounds, no clicking just the lights on

George-Allsorts :

Good test... Are you capable to work on the appliance and have tools to do so?

JACUSTOMER-jxwndmcc- :

Probably - but not sure what to do?

George-Allsorts :

You need to check the appliance for worn motor brushes.. Your appliance is a 2007 appliance and if my thoughts are correct, the brushes in the motor your appliance have worn out

JACUSTOMER-jxwndmcc- :

OK - how do I get into those? how do I open the machine and would it be obvious if the brushes are worn?

George-Allsorts :

If you unplug the appliance from the power and disconnect it from the water supply then if you take the rear panel off the appliance you will see the motor in front of you.. Take it off, then come back to me

George-Allsorts :

I will walk you through it

JACUSTOMER-jxwndmcc- :

OK this will take a while - I will get back to you. Thanks

George-Allsorts :

In the meantime, can I ask you to take a moment to rate my assistance/responses so far? Please use the smiley faces which you should now see. Once rated, I will assist you further with the fault... The higher the rating the better for me.
This will initially close our chat but we can still re-open and continue our conversation

JACUSTOMER-jxwndmcc- :

OK sorry about the delay. I am in and have the back cover off and see the motor and a belt

JACUSTOMER-jxwndmcc- :

Do you want me to push the submit green button? as that asks me if I want to exit?

George-Allsorts :

I dont know what it looks like.. I only know there are 5 smiley faces and I like number 5

George-Allsorts :

It will exit you, but you can come back in afterwards

OK I have paid and left you a tip! Are back in chat?

Expert:  George-Allsorts replied 3 years ago.
There are some bolts to undo,, and a wiring harness, and an earth lead to disconnect, can you see them?
Expert:  George-Allsorts replied 3 years ago.
Are you there Sean?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

yes

Expert:  George-Allsorts replied 3 years ago.
I thought you had vanished

Have you managed to undo the bolts and unplugged the wiring harness?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

No sure if I am on the right thing - I have not done anything yet, there is a rectangular plate with one bolt and a earthe clipped into it plus 3 other sets of wires is this what I have to disconnect?

Expert:  George-Allsorts replied 3 years ago.
You should see a belt on a pulley... that beld needs to come off the pulley... The pulley is part of the motor.. you should see either one or two bolts in the motor to undo

I have to pop out.. but i'll be back in about 15 mins
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Hi there the motor is now off and im rrying to disconnect the wires

Expert:  George-Allsorts replied 3 years ago.
I'm back..

There is either one clip at either end of the block... or... One clip in the center of the block.. Squeeze the clip/s and wriggle the block out of the socket it is in
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

motor is out!

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

motor is out what next?

Expert:  George-Allsorts replied 3 years ago.
Excellent...

Now if you turn it around you will see two black objects screwed to the motor.. They will have one wire on each one... Unscrew one of them and tell me the length of the carbon coming out of the end of it
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

ok, we are struggling to find suitable tool to get screws out....

Expert:  George-Allsorts replied 3 years ago.

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Expert:  George-Allsorts replied 3 years ago.

Oops, I recon you have had a fair run on those... you need a new set.. They should be around 25 - 30mm long

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

OK - that sounds bad, have you got a phone number?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I guess I can order new ones?

Expert:  George-Allsorts replied 3 years ago.
