, My indesit DC185 is not drying our cloths. It is

Resolved Question:

Hi,
My indesit DC185 is not drying our cloths.
It is heating up but not turning or collecting the water.
Ive checked the belt and given it a thorough cleaning. It has been well maintained since its purchase.
Any ideas as to what part I can buy and change myself, as a new purchase is not possible at this time.

George-Allsorts :

Hello, my name is***** be patient whilst awaiting any responses as I'm not constantly available.

Can you take another look at the model number as the one you have given is not recognised...

Customer:

Hi George,

Customer:

Its IDCA 835 uk

George-Allsorts :

Thanks for that.. Let me go have a look at the diagrams of the appliance

George-Allsorts :

When you checked the belt.. was the belt tight?

George-Allsorts :

Also, from the top of the appliance, can you rotate the drum by hand.. Tightly or loosely

Customer:

Yes the drum was tight and yes i could rotate the drum by hand and this can also be done where you put the cloths in.

George-Allsorts :

OK.. I want you to try something for me ok?

George-Allsorts :

Are you there?

Customer:

Hi yes

Customer:

Hi you're back

George-Allsorts :

I need you to take off the lid, and turn the drum whilst pressing the strt button.. tell me if the drum starts to turn on its own

Customer:

ok back once done. thanks

George-Allsorts :

OK

Customer:

Hi George,

George-Allsorts :

Hi

Customer:

yes Ive taken the lid of and turned it on and the drum is not moving

George-Allsorts :

You turned the drum by hand and pressed the button at the same time?

George-Allsorts :

???

Customer:

yes

Customer:

ive just notice the belt has come off :-( this wasnt the case whilst i was troublr shooting.

Customer:

once ive change the belt could anything else be wrong with it?

George-Allsorts :

OK... Then you are going to need the assistance of an Appliance Technician to look at the appliance because there are a few other factors that could cause this that would need electrical test equipment to find where the problem is

Customer:

and do you know how i can change the belt quickly

George-Allsorts :

I thought you said the belt was ok?

Customer:

it was until i just check

George-Allsorts :

What has happened to the belt?

Customer:

well was ok two weeks ago when i first had the problem

George-Allsorts :

So, is the belt broken and curled at one end?

Customer:

yes

George-Allsorts :

Then it is likely that either the bearings have gone on your appliance or the appliance has been overloaded.. This causes the drum to drop and the motor to spin inside the belt, or become to heavy to turn.. when this happens, the belt heats up and breaks.

I can instruct you how to change the belt, but, it is not an easy task and you could do further damage by attempting to do it yourself.

Do you want the instruction?

Customer:

yes please i can ask a friend to help me. also my dad thought it could be the bearings so i will purchase these parts. could i also have instructions on how to change the bearings. could you email these please to *****@******.***

Customer:

thanks for your help

George-Allsorts :

I can not see the email address you have posted here.. try again but put the word 'at' rather than the ampersand sign.

Also, before I can send you the detail I will require you to rate my assistance here.. Use the smiley faces to do this.

Customer:

ok leolarobertsathotmaildotcom

Customer:

does that make sense now..... and id be more than happy to rate your service.

Customer:

but before i do can bearing be puchased?

George-Allsorts :

That does indeed make sense..

Both the bearing & Shaft repair kits can be bought and so can the belt

George-Allsorts :

you'll need to look at the rear of the drum once removed to see which shaft and bearing it has

Customer:

ok

George-Allsorts :

If you then send me a picture of the rear of the drum to my works mobile #07787182156 I will give you the correct part number and place to buy it

Customer: brilliant !!! thanks again
George-Allsorts :

I mean the rear of the drum once the drum is out of the appliance

Customer:

haha ha

Customer:

ok will rate you and send once ive done it but will be later today is that still ok

George-Allsorts :

Yes, no problem.. Once rated I will send you some text instructions.. and as this is not part of the original question please ask any further questions by text and I will be glad to assist

Customer:

thanks George :-)
