We have recently bought a Kenwood American style fridge feezer

Resolved Question:

We have recently bought a Kenwood American style fridge feezer (KFF2DW14) from Currys. All going well until 3 nights ago when unit started to make a noise like a far-off fog horn for approx 5 seconds, followed by a click. Sequence repeats every 2-3 minutes. Opened feezer side today to find that entire contents had defrosted. Then checked fridge to find that it too is not very cold. All digital read-outs and lock/onlock appear to be functioning correctly. Grateful for any ideas or guidance before we ring Currys tomorrow

Hi If you empty the freezer and look on the back wall in there do you see any ice or frost on there? Also can you hear the compressor at the back running? If you can access the compressor is it hot to touch? Regards

Hi Daniel,

No ice or frost on back wall. Dry.

Compressor running and cover plate cool to touch.

Hi Ok what you can try if the compressor is running is a full defrost. Turn the appliance off and leave the freezer door open for 24 hours. Then turn it back on and see what happens. As sometimes you can get ice blocking the air flow in the freezer and this causes this issue.Or you can empty the freezer and remove the back panel inside the freezer to access the evaporator and check for an ice build up behind there. But as its under warrenty sometimes removing panels can invalidate the warrenty and manufactores can be funny with things like this. If the 24 hours defrost doesn't cure it and the compressor is still running but with no cooling then its looking like the sealed system is the issue which Currys will need to sort out as this isn't an easy and diy fix. But on a fridge with this kind of fault all you can try is a 24 hour defrost in case its an ice blockage behind all the panels. Regards
