The spark electrode, in addition to lighting the burner flame, acts as a flame sensor, which sends a signal to the control board, in order to keep the gas valve open. Check the electrode wire position to be sure it's getting hot enough. It will glow orange. If it doesn't, reposition the electrode, to get more flame coverage.
