Hello Mary, my name is George,

Can you tell me the model of the appliance please?

hotpoint ultima super silent 5+5 kg

Normally the model is printed on the right lower side of the fascia panel.
If it is not there, it is on a label inside the door and also on the rear of the appliance.

F-12 is a communication issue between devices within the appliance, however, advice on how to deal with it will depend on the individual model of appliance

Thank you Mary,

On that model the F-12 is a communication error between the main module at the rear left of the appliance inside the rear opening and the display card at the front of the appliance..

This could be caused by loose wiring or plugs to the board, or faulty components on the board.

There are repairers that you can send the board to if the need arises.

Turn off the appliance for 10 mins, then turn it on and try again.

Let me know how you get on.
