I've just purchased the black and decker lithium dust buster

Hi I've just purchased the black and decker lithium dust buster and plugged it in to charge for the first time ! The charging blue lights immediately started to flash it was left charging all day when I tried removing the unit from the charger and switching it on nothing happened at all !! Not even the battery light lit up does it need to be left on charge for a longer time initially or have I got a faulty appliance ?? Thankyou Louise
