Usually this is a clogged drain pump especially if you heard that sound but it was faint.
If you are just a little handy this part is a pretty easy to replace component.

Hi, ok, the problem is that there is either a clog in the drain pump as I mentioned earlier, or a clog in the drain line going to the sink trap.
I can walk you through the repair it really is easy ;-)
All you will need are a few basic hand tools to fix this one.

I would pull off the drain line to the sink trap from the dishwasher and see if it is gunked up with grease or food particles.
