Hi steve i jave a e46 323i se x reg ive got a clunking nosie sound coming from.the.front.of.the car doesnt happen all the time.seems to be when car has been driven and u can here it at low speed on roads.or uneven roads.nothing found on recent mot .in.thinking top mount s on shocks ????

Uusally the most common apart from what you said already..i would be checking the anti roll bar links/drop links..normally these are quite common for wearing and thus do exactly the same sort of noise as you describe..these dont really tend to be picked up during mot..so certainly check those..by checking for excess play at the balljoints ends top and bottom..if they are loose feeling or easily moved about by hand then they are worn and need replaced..they should be stiff too move..also carefully check the roll bar bushing for wear/splits in the rubber bushing..another check common fail even though this is checked on mot is the lower control arm rear most bushing bolted to the body..this is the bushing that held to the body of the car via two bolts..check carefully for movement there..normally

i would advise to have the drop links checked or replaced first even and then see if that helps..they are reasonably cheap and easy to fit and would be the best place to start/make checks as above..I do hope this helps
