My 2000 BMW 535 sport has developed a problem with the power

Resolved Question:

My 2000 BMW 535 sport has developed a problem with the power steering.
At normal driving speeds the steering appears to be OK but at low speeds it is now very heavy when maneuvering.
What are the likely causes and what steps need to be taken to cure?

Hello

I'd 1st check for tight / worn strut top bearing

To feel if there's a worn strut top bearing then lightly hold the spring by hand and have your assistant move the steering from left to right with the wheel on the ground - a worn bearing will feel 'notchy' through the spring. The wheel needs to be on the ground for the test to load up the bearing

if thats Ok and the pump drive belt is OK then I'd consider replacing the pump
