2005 e90 320d. cold starting

Customer Question

Steve, here is my problem on a 2005 e90 320d. Only on cold mornings my car fails to start, enter fob press push start once, ignition lights, push clutch down, press start and I get just a click & "bong" with the following sequence in the engine management area ( DSC then RFT then Service, sometimes ABS sometimes glow plug) this happens on a second attempt as well and then on a third attempt it starts and engine management area shows check OK, and I never have a problem starting rest of the day. Battery changed last month and glow plugs also changed last month, get error codes 4212 4242 4232 4242 4 glow plugs on INPA but suspect due to non oem glowplugs fitted from ebay not recognised, dont think its the glowplug controller faulty due to no white smoke from exhaust pipe or shuddering when eventualy started, do you think adding an extra earth strap in engine bay might cure this problem?
