Matt, my 2008 X5 has had a snapped cam chain and the BMW

Resolved Question:

Hi Matt, my 2008 X5 has had a snapped cam chain and the BMW dealer said it needs a new engine at a cost of £12k! The car has BMW FSH and has done 100k. What are my options? Regards,
Stephen

Hello

there's another option

a good used engine will be considerably less ( about £4K) then another days labour to swap the units over

try a specialist BMW breakers like

http://www.bmw-spares.com/

or

http://www.bmspares.co.uk/

Thanks - what do you think my chances are of getting BMW to replace it?

Hello Stephen

Slim at best I'm afraid

if the car has a full (and I mean full) BMW serivce history then might stand a chance but due to its age it is unlikely

I'd suggest contacting BMW customer service directly if you think you have a case

you might have better luck at asking for a contribution towards the repair rather than for the whole bill
