I have a Vauxhall Meriva 2008 registration, the car has a wheel

Customer Question

I have a Vauxhall Meriva 2008 registration, the car has a wheel wobble notisable at low speed, my local mechanic (where I bought the car and have it serviced) says it is because of the power steering. Will it get worse? Is this a common fault? Has there been a recall on this model?

Hello.

Do you mean the steering wheel is wobbling at low speed.

yes! but I suspect that the wobble is also there at higher speed but road vibration and noise prevent me from feeling it so much,

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

yes! but I also believe it wobbles at a higher speed but it is not as notisable

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

At all speeds but more notesable at low soeed

The first thing to do is swap the front wheels to the rear. This should determine whether it is a tyre fault or a power steering issue.

I,ve tried that and it makes little difference

Is there any noise associated with the steering wobble?

no

I think what you are feeling is the electric motor that helps turn the steering column shaft.

There is no recall for the steering on the Meriva. The steering does feel different from conventional power steering which is why you maybe feeling that it isn't right.
