I have a 1998 r reg astra 1.6 estate clubman how does the wiring on the drivers airbag come undone as I wish to remove the steering wheel to be able to get to the instrument panel to change a bulb

You don't need to remove the steering wheel to remove the instrument cluster.

markthebooler :

Remove the steering cowling. This exposes the screws that secure the trim over the cluster. Remove this trim and you will see the screw for the instrument cluster.

Pull the cluster out and tilt it to undo the wiring plug and then you can remove it fully.

markthebooler :

If you disconnect the airbag plug and switch on the ignition by mistake then the airbag light will stay on until you connect a scan tool to switch it off.
