56 Plate mondeo, No fault found on Diagnostic Check, yet still

Customer Question

56 Plate mondeo, No fault found on Diagnostic Check, yet still stutters between 60-70 mph, Occaisionally feels if brakes are being lightly applied and tends to emit black smoke.
local Garage reckons that it may be due to an air leak causing the onboard control unit to push in more fuel as it thinks the car is demandind it, but they haven't had chance to investigate this aspect as I needed it back on the road. otherwise despite having 100,000 on the clock it starts and runs well. Any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks
