To tax your car they will check the insurance database - if its not on there then its highly unlikely they will issue one to be honest.basically to prevent uninsured drivers... if you didnt have vaild insurance certificate when renewing at a post office they wouldnt give you one..Although now you dont need to supply/show those documents anymore as its all on an insurance database aswell as MOT's which they can look up using the registration number before they issue a tax disc...prob would be best to insure the car and if it has valid mot - then tax it to be on the safe side..I do hope this helps
