ford focus 1.8 w reg now and again engine will rev when i use the brake pedal have changed the coil pack new ht leads and plugs any ideas many thanks paul.

Does the revs take a while to come down if you rev it from stationary
Does the idle rise when you stop at junctions

yes you got it in one.

Hi Paul
Ok the fault lies with a split /collapsed breather hose at the under side of the inlet manifold
The reason the vehicles idle rises /takes a while to come down is that the engine is drawing in undetected air
(Basically the air glow sensor doesent. See this so the PCM /ecu cannot adjust the fueling for smooth idle
The hose is avaiable from your local ford parts department and isn't expensive from memory it is around £25 (would need to clarify this as it's been a few years since I have fitted one )
and takes 5 minutes to install
