hello i have a hyundai santa fe which is 9 months old and done 8000 miles, it seems to using a lot of oil i have topped it up with 3.5 litres of oil i that time have you any idea why it is using that much

Normally the manufaturer set a usage of 1litre to every 1000miles - which is quite ok and not just on your car can this be seen or experianced - especially so on a new engine during running a sense can cause slight if you had to top up 3.5litres in 8000miles then it shouldnt be of concern..the problem is if the consumption every 1000miles is as above a litre then the engine has a problem whether it be failed rings/valve stem seals causing the engine to burn off oil or even a external leak.the dealer would have to carry out an oil consumption test if it where in need of further investigation..I do hope this helps.
